IGS has commenced operations at a 5,000 sq ft workshop space at Michelin Scotland Innovation Parc (MSIP).
The coming year marks a considerable change of pace for IGS as the business gears up to deploy its indoor farming solutions to customers across the world. The workshop at MSIP will enable the company to refine installation and customer delivery processes as it prepares for UK and international deployments. IGS is the third tenant to take up residence at MSIP since it was launched in 2019.
MSIP is a world-class Innovation Parc in Dundee for sustainable mobility and decarbonisation. This joint venture between Michelin, Dundee City Council and Scottish Enterprise aims to drive growth and diversity in the Scottish economy while addressing the global climate emergency.
IGS CEO, David Farquhar, commented: “The closure of Michelin’s Dundee site was of course a blow to the region, but thanks to the hard work and commitment of those behind MSIP, we’re well on our way to transforming Dundee into a hub for innovation as we look to develop technologies that will help us guarantee a more sustainable future. We have recruited former employees of Michelin who are now well-established members of the IGS crew and are back at MSIP helping to ready our vertical farm system for global deployment. There’s something quite special about being able to come full circle like that!
“We have been based at the James Hutton Institute in Invergowrie, just outside Dundee, since 2015 so IGS’s roots are well established in the area. We’re very pleased to have the opportunity to continue to grow our business operations while simultaneously supporting a new location that looks set to deliver huge benefits across the region.”
Greig Coull, CEO of Michelin Scotland Innovation Parc said: “It’s great news that IGS has decided to locate at MSIP, and even better to hear that they have already recruited some of the previous Michelin Dundee workforce.
“Our ambition is to build an environment for companies and collaborators at MSIP to create jobs, generate economic growth and contribute towards decarbonisation. IGS will do all three of those things, and I welcome the IGS team to MSIP.”
