This week, IGS has welcomed a new intake of summer interns as part of the Saltire Scholar Internship programme. The programme, which is hosted by Entrepreneurial Scotland, aims to help shape the next generation of leaders for Scotland by providing high-quality internships located in Scotland and throughout the world.

In 2020, IGS hosted one of the largest group of scholars ever taken by a single company of this size since the Internship Programme began in 2007, welcoming nine students to its team. Following the success of these placements, this year the company will play host to 10 students, who will take on a variety of project-based roles across the business working across the departments to support functions from R&D and Crop Science through to Marketing and Supply Chain.

The students will spend 10 weeks over the course of the summer working with IGS before returning to their respective universities in the autumn to complete their final year of undergraduate study.

Head of HR at IGS, Donald Mackenzie, commented:

“We are so fortunate to be in a position to welcome this incredibly talented group of young people to join us for the summer at IGS. It is always so refreshing to be able to bring in new ways of thinking and working to any organisation, and we’re confident that this year’s Saltire Scholars will have a huge role to play in shaping the future of our company. We were so impressed by the calibre of applicants and know that this year’s cohort will be valuable members of the team in no time. Last year, the programme was so successful that a number of those who undertook summer placements have now gone on to take up permanent roles working with IGS. We have every confidence that this year’s interns will be every bit as passionate, talented and enthusiastic, and we look forward to having them onboard.”

Now in its 14th year, the Entrepreneurial Scotland Saltire Scholar Internship Programme boasts more the 1,200 alumni from a broad range of academic backgrounds including business, engineering, IT and life science.
